In Order to Avoid Health Risks, you Should Drink Water Only When You are Thirsty

Drinking water is our basic need. But, drinking too much of water can be dangerous. In some cases, it can even lead to death. Researchers announced that athletes should drink water only when they are thirsty. This should reduce the risk of exercise-associated hyponatremia and it will keep you hydrated.
The EAH (exercise-associated hyponatremia) occurs when an athlete consumes too much of sports drink or water. In this case, the kidneys cannot excrete the excess fluids in the body. So, sodium levels become diluted and they cause cell swelling that can be dangerous. Mild symptoms are: nausea, dizziness and puffiness. But, in severe cases, this condition can lead to seizures, coma and in some cases even death. 14 athletes have died from this condition. Researchers said that not just athletes are in danger, then all people who have a lot of physical activity.
Researchers that conducted the last study, said that in order to avoid the risk of this condition, athletes should follow their inner thirst mechanism. Simply said, you should drink water only when you are thirsty. This will keep you hydrated and it will prevent dehydration. Several groups have announced that you should drink water, before you are thirsty during extremely hot weather. This will prevent stroke and muscle cramps. According to Dr. James Winger, from the Department of Family Medicine of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, both, strokes and muscle cramps are not linked to dehydration. They occur because your body generates too much heat. Drinking water only when you are thirsty can eliminate this danger.
