Women who suffered stroke, may use uric acid for disability problems

A new study found that women stroke victims, who were treated with the uric acid, had no or very little disability. In fact, 42% of them benefited compared to 29% of patients who were treated with a placebo. A stroke is a serious problem that hits person’s physical and philological well-being. A recovery and rehabilitation are very important and they can make a huge difference. According to a study, for the AHA (American Heart Association), gave more information about the recovery treatment.

Dr. Chamorro, the lead author, and her team, analyzed data from 2014. All of the data was based on URIC-ICTUS. All patients were people who suffered a stroke and they were admitted to health centers in Spain. The study included 205 men and 206 women. All of them received treatments in order to remove clots. 50% of the participants received 1.000 mg of uric acid therapy or a placebo. At that time, researchers found that this therapy had no effect on patients. After they re-analyzed the data, researchers found that 42% of women, treated with the uric acid therapy, showed less disability, 3 months after they had a stroke. On the other side, 29% of women treated with a placebo, had the same effect. Also, women treated with the uric acid, had less dead tissue. However, men didn’t have any benefits of the treatment.

The most common type of stroke is an ischemic stroke. It happens when a clot clogs an artery that supplies oxygen to the brain. When doctors remove the clot, the brain can receive the oxygen. However, free radicals that can damage the surrounding tissue are also released. Uric acid can eliminate them.
